Button Box Cleaning Instructions

Over time, residue may build up between the buttons and the button housings on the system.  This can cause the buttons to stick slightly in the housing when pressed down and can slow the return of the buttons to the up position when released.  Having the middle button in this condition can result in Task 3 in the assessment occasionally having the on-screen box advance through the moving vertical lines without client input.  If this occurs, please clean the button according to the following instructions.

Problem:
During Task 3, the box will move even though the center button was only pressed once.

Solution:
The buttons needs to be cleaned with 99% Isopropyl alcohol.

Detailed Steps:
  1. You will need 99% isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs.

  2. Power down and unplug the computer.
  3. Dip one end of the cotton swab in the alcohol.  Rub the soaked end along the all side edges of the button.

  4. Depress the button into the button housing for a few seconds, and release.

  5. Take the dipped end of the cotton swab, rub the edge the buttons.  Flip to the dry side of the swab, and repeat.
  6.  Wait a few seconds to let the alcohol fully evaporate, and repeat the above steps a few more times, using a fresh swab each time.
  7. Power up the system, login to the DriveABLE Assessment site, and test the button using Task 3 in a Practice Assessment, found in the Training section of the site.
